Rattler Nation has learned that former FAMU president Walter L. Smith has been hired as a "transition consultant" to interim president Castell Vaughn Bryant. Mr. Smith has been stationed in the Office of Alumni Affairs since January and is being paid $150,000 for his work.

This is Mr. Smith's second $100,000/+ contract with FAMU under the Castell Bryant administration.

It's interesting that Mr. Smith has been hired as a "transition consultant", we are told by longtime administrators that when Mr. Smith left office he changed the locks to the President's Office (then Room 301 FHAC) and took the keys with him, locking the new FAMU president out.

On another note, it seems that Mr. Smith has gotten his new office mate, Altha Manning, an appearance on the Judge Greg Mathis Show tommorrow. We are told that Judge Mathis and Mr. Smith are cousins.

  1. There's $100K+ plus for Smith and how much for the unpaid graduate teaching assistants and staffers?

  2. Maybe they need to go and get a loan from one of the presidents in Lee Hall, since they are making all of that cheddar.

  3. Why all of the loive for Fred Humphries and none for Walter Smith??? Yall continue to be full of shit!!!!

  4. where the eff is this money for high level administrators coming from, considering the grad students and 600 others are getting dicked in the mouth with their paychecks.

  5. Let's see...uhhh Walter Smith never cared about anyone but himself.

  6. You have to remember that Walter Smith derailed FAMU almost as bad as Castell and Co. Of course, no one is as worse as CVB and Altha and the rest of the Gangster Girls.

  7. This is not Castell's transition so why is she paying Walter Smith for this effort and so much money at that.

We need to pay these people who have not been paid. That should be Castell's first priority.

  8. I thought CVB had issued some kind of "moratorium" on hiring folk, personnel changes and the like. I reckon Walter Smith's so-called consultant gig doesn't fall under any such administrative block-out that CVB has imposed upon other divisions across the university. Can we just make her go away? Please??

  9. NO! Certain BOT are doing everything in their power to keep her in that chair. Just imagine all of those lucrative contracts in danger of being cancelled?

Ain't going to happen. Too much money at stake for dem Repubs!

  10. Didn't they just name a building after Walker L. Smith? I thought that was a fitting tribute for all that he has done for FAMU.

  11. Apparently, some folks thought Smith should get a building named for him and $250,000!!!!!

  12. Guess where the signage for the buildings that are being "named" going?

Well it ain't "on" the buildings!

The students and others who haven't been paid should demand that contracts like the one signed with Smith and bonus money paid to Bryant be rescinded and used to pay from for actual "work" performed.

I pray for a new dawning soon. Seriously, we all need to pray.

  13. FAMU was featured on Greg Mathis' daily Black History Month feature spot today. He emphasized his family connection to Walter L. Smith.

  14. Greg Mathis spoke at one of the graduations not very long ago, and he introduced Dr. Smith as one of his cousins.

That's really OLD NEWS that the two are relatives.

  15. Ok, so Greg and Walter are kinfolk. I have a first cousin named Greg and a second coursin named Walter. Is that news? I don't think so. Give me some news that I can use, or better yet, give me something I can take to the bank, 'cause who's kin to whom and who spoke where, when, ain nothing new. Hello?

  16. The Judge Mathis Show is doing Black History Month snapshots all month long. He did a 10 minute feature on FAMU. Yes he did discuss his ties to the school as well. It was very good publicity for the university. Probably better publicity than the Super Bowl since it was never mentioned during the performance that the band was the Marching 100 from FAMU.

It is unfortunate that we can never see some positives even when they occur. This past year although FAMUans have sought to bring the university down; others have seen the promise in our university and continue to feature us in a positive manner...Prince, Greg Mathis, Black Enterprise, Kanye West. All of these people think FAMU is worthy. Its time the alumni and students get on board and focus on the positives.

In regards to Walter Smith, just asjing, don't all former presidents get some kind of golden parachute and lifelong jobs with the university system? Maybe this is what he is doing. What are Gainous and Humphries doing for their FAMU pay?

ROTFL - This is a darn message board. ROTFL If you want NEWS, turn on your t.v. stations to CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, ESPN, etc. Hopefully, you don't want NEWS to take to the bank, but some $$$$$$$.

If you don't want to read what others have to say, "click it" or "X" out.

ROTFL... I think this was the funniest response I read today.

  18. 8:15--this is old news. and $$ ain' got nothing to do with nothing. you're stupid, and plus you missed the damn point. damn, this ain' even about $$. Apparently, you don't understand the business of puns, sarcasm or wit.

  19. Dr. Walter Lee Smith is self-serving and doesn't have a unselfish bone in his body. It is and will always be about Walter Lee Smith, probably the worst president in the history of the university. Yeah even worst then Gainous.

While the alumni, faculty and students were trying to get a new president to get behind, he was busy running trying to get someone from these groups to throw his name in the pot.

    He's pathetic.

Did people forget other circumstances under which Walter Smith left? He got a student pregnant, and her daddy came up her to beat him up. He was notorious for sleeping with students and staff. Why should he be given a golden parachute?

  21. 12:38--I remember that. How old would that child be right about now--at least mid-20s, right? If I had been that young lady's mom/dad, I would've beat Walter like he was a runaway slave.
