Will focus on students
"Fireside chats," faculty and staff empowerment, and "engaging enrollment plans" are just three of the objectives James Ammons said he will implement when he arrives to claim the top spot on The Hill July 2.
"Everything we do will be to make our students successful and competitive," said FAMU's president-elect in an exclusive interview with The Famuan Wednesday.
Ammons said he wants FAMU students, who just spawned a week of protests, to know he plans to habitually attend SGA meetings, make regular stops to the Café and stay informed with the day-to-day happenings of campus clubs.

Fireside chats in Florida? Really?
ReplyDeleteYou obviously don't know what "Fireside chats" reference too. Hint FDR.
ReplyDeleteI do, but "pool side" chats are more inline with Florida.
ReplyDeleteIt gets very cold on "Tallest Hill" in Tallahassee.
ReplyDeleteI threw snowballs there in Jan. '76, so I KNOW it gets cold.
ReplyDelete"Pool side chats"
ReplyDeleteThat would be great, i could think of it know.
"The Dr. Ammons Pool and Barbeque Bash."
That's a way to bring in a great administration

Anyway, the fact that he wants to talk to people and hear what they have to say is a refreshing change from the evil ruler FAMU now has.
This is the kind of positive outlook our president should be communicating to the Rattler Nation, not what Cast-Hell did in last Saturday's Tallahassee Democrat.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what i have done to deserve such harsh banter on this website blog.
ReplyDeleteFamu have soon a great deal of improvement under my tenure. Faulty administrators were rid of, and new practices were initiated.
I can't help wonder why would a community not want their house cleaned. Since 1997 Famu have seen some of the worst fiscal cover up that have ever been seen by man kind. During my tenure, i have highlighted and acting upon these issues.
My team have worked dillingly to communicate with the student body. We can acheived great strides with the implimation of a learning center in the old commons, and proposed expansion of our scholarship, and graduate feeder programs.
Obviously, 10:16, 10:06 was being sarcastic and didn't need clarification on the phrase "Fireside Chats." Duhh-h-h.
ReplyDeleteYou, 10:16, were obviously looking for something early in the morning to complain about.
11:24, you had to spoil things, didn't you? You had to go and mention CVB. Previous to your post (and up until this one) no one has seen fit to mention the Dragon Lady. She's already beginning to become a bad memory. Let us declare today a CVB-free zone. Believe me, there's going to be plenty more times and opportunities that we can rag on the old grouch. But today, for a moment, let us not go there.
ReplyDelete12:22, when did CVB say this stuff? Surely her grammar was better than what you've posted here, or are you simply paraphrasing in your own, humble way?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of fireside chats...im so excited for him!
ReplyDeleteI think the major difference between Drs. Bryant, Ganious and Ammons will be the fact that Dr. Ammons will not blame past administrations for issues that need to be fixed. More importantly, his vision will not allow him to become overwhelmed with what past leaders did or did not do. Farewell Dr. Bryant, although you may have not purposely set out to destroy FAMU your lack of vision for the institution and hatred for everything Humphries has stifled our growth while our sister schools have thrived. Hopefully, your “love” for FAMU will remain as you renew your financial contributions to the institution that you proclaimed to save two years ago. It is high time for all rattlers, friend or foe to move our institution forward. And finally, in the words of extreme home make over, Welcome home Ammons family, welcome home!
ReplyDeleteMost of you way overstate any flaws with Bryant. She is an interim, and as such cannot implement very big changes on the campus. One advantage Ammons has is that he not "interim." As an interim, Bryant was taken to task for everyone of her major decisions. Remember when she fired those faculty? Folks didn't like that very much. Ammons is going to have to fire some longtimers too, but I think that he will have a more significant honeymoon period and that people see him as someone who has approval, as a permanent president, to implement more major changes than an interim. He is going to have to make some big changes at FAMU that have a permanent effect in the institution. Not everyone will like every one of his changes, but I hope people do not go after him for firing longtimers.

ReplyDeletedr. bryant saw herself as "president in the interim" and as such she made changes and decisions a permanent president shouldve made. with that said, dr. bryant is reaping what she has sown and she deserves all she gets. We want our money back!
She DID have the green light to make long-range and lasting decisions. She should not have ever been allowed to make the majority of them. She was/is not fit for the job(.)
ReplyDeleteI know this is off topic, but WCTV 6 reported that the SGA has cut the marching 100's budget from 150,000 to 30,000 and they will have to wait until the 3rd or 4th game to march. We all need to really help come up with the other 120,000 so that the most recognized band in America can function. Sadly, this is another attribute to the lack of permanent administration; as student enrollment declined so did student fees--and who got hurt, the students.
ReplyDeleteLike some of the other commenters, I think that it is GREAT that Dr. Ammons will be making an effort to establish a good rapport with faculty and students.
ReplyDeleteI hate to make the comparison, but Dr. Humphries was surrrounded by students wherever he as on campus. One of the things that has been missing for some time now is that presence amongst the students. I'm confident that Dr. Ammons will be able to accomplish that.

Amen. And she should have accepted an Interim's salary because she did a half ass job..in the Interim.
i can't wait until everyone starts calling dr. ammons names. in 12 months these post will be the same, except the name will be different.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha!
2:25, honey, you need to wait until Ammons gets here, because you don't know what the man is going to do or who he's going to blame for things past and/or present. Can the man just get here first before folks start saying what he is and/or is not going to do?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Joe Ann Houston trying to get a leadership position?

I reckon cause she thinks she some kind of "leader." Other than that, I do not know the answer. What kind of position is she attempting ot get? Does anyone on this board know?

Plus, she wants to get paid for every committee she serves on when every body else SERVES. She got over on some of the SACS stuff she did, while other SACS folks just worked because they loved the school.
I wander what she is trying to get now. She applies for every open leadership slot there is.
is this person one of castell's friends. who is she?
ReplyDelete"fireside chats" LOL... I wonder if that is code for I will NEVER talk to you.
