The Hampton Daily Press this afternoon is reporting that Hampton University football coach Joe Taylor said Tuesday that he has hired former Florida A&M coach Billy Joe as the Pirates new offensive coordinator. Joe replaces Charles Bankins, who resigned this week to become the running backs coach at the University of Richmond.
Joe coached 11 sesaons at FAMU, which plays against Hampton in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. He led the Rattlers to an 86-46 record from 1994-2004, including four MEAC titles and seven postseason appearances.
Joe's FAMU teams rang up high scores employing his "Gulf Coast Offense," and Taylor said Hampton will adopt the scheme. Taylor described it as a "wide-open two-minute offense that you run for the entire 60 minutes. It's no-huddle and fast-paced."
Taylor added, "Coach Joe has put four or five quarterbacks in the NFL. We need that kind of high-level success to keep us moving in the right direction. We have two young quarterbacks, and I believe he'll do a great job developing them.
"Since the American Football Coaches Association was founded in 1921 there have been three black coaches to lead it: Eddie Robinson (Grambling State), myself and Billy Joe. You don't lead that organization unless you're a man of integrity. Billy Joe is a man of integrity."
Billy Joe a class act until the end
Joe still enjoys football
Billy Joe sues FAMU
FAMU should have fired Cast-hell and kept Billy Joe!!!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh Shit!!!!!!! We're gonna get CLOBBERED! I thought Hampton kicked our ass last year...We're gonna get beat like a drum!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe Taylor is real smart. Appalachian State adopted the "Gulf Coast" offense after we beat them in the playoffs and have been rolling ever since. In fact, they won the D1-AA Championship with it this year. Hampton's gain is FAMU's loss. Congrats Coach Joe!
ReplyDeleteYeah we are in some deep deep ish.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Hampton on picking up a Jewel.
FAMU 7
ReplyDeleteHampton 84
watch out there now.
And as much as I love FAMU football, this will be a game we deserve to lose.
I miss billy.
ReplyDeleteI have the greatest respect for Coach Joe. Congratulations to him and Hampton University.
ReplyDeleteGood for Billy Joe. I have always thought that FAMU mistreated Billy Joe. He was always treated like a second class citizen at the university. Castell Bryant is a horrible person for instituting Joe's firing. He was a damn good coach, a class act and a good person to the end, no matter how terrible the university treated him. I'm extrememly happy for him. Our loss is Hampton's gain.
ReplyDeleteI hope Hampton's football team whip FAMU's ass and then go to Lee Hall and whip Castell's ass. Maybe then she'll quit wearing that damn jheri curl and those tired assed green suits.
ReplyDeleteGonna be an interesting season. But hopefully the rattlers will prevail. He can't get on the field and play though.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Coach Billy Joe and Hampton but the rattlers are gonna kick their butts. Go RATTLERS!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf BJ was so great with his GC offense, then why did A&T and BCC kick the sh!t out of us everytime we played them?
ReplyDeleteHiU can have that one trick pony for all I care.
BCC and A&T didn't start kicking the S@#$ out of us until we hamstrung our football team by making a failed move to Div 1A. Something coach JOE was against. How quickly we forget
ReplyDeleteI am a proud graduate of FAMU and an employee of Hampton University. I am so excited about this!
ReplyDeleteAs a graduate of both Hampton and FAMU, I'm happy either way. Coach Taylor is a good and fair man who really cares about his players.
