Henry Lewis III, professor of Pharmacy Practice, in the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been named to the National Advisory Research Resources Council (NARRC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NARRC makes final recommendations on research and training grants, research and animal facilities, translation research and research equipment funding totaling $1.2 billion per year. Lewis was appointed to a five year term by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt.

The National Center for Research Resources has provided over $50 Million in research funding, to the FAMU College of Pharmacy since 1985.

“I am honored by the Secretary’s appointment to this prestigious Council,” said Lewis. “To have the opportunity to participate in the development of national research policy and direction that will improve the health of our nation is a very important assignment. I hope to bring additional focus onto health disparities research and how we can enhance the quality of lives for all Americans.”

  3. Henry Lewis is an incompetent and knows absolutely nothing about research or grants. The money that College of Pharmacy is based solely on its professors.

  4. 6:47 pm You are an idiot!! Why is there so much HATE in the Black Community? Ronalnd Regan was truly inept and incompetent, by himself, but when you factored in the people around him he was "great". And all white people hole him in the highest esteem. Now here Dr. Lewis is a man of true valour and all you can do is hate on the man? Remember when Gainous and his crew were setting up the COPharmacy to be handed over to FSU and the BOT was going along with what ever Bush had Gainous doing, it wasn't until Dr. Lewis stepped down as Dean did we all as Famuans say hold on what is going on here! No other Professor had that power and as a matter of fact I did not see any other professors resign thier jobs in protest at the school was being torn down from the inside! So simply put go to hell!

  5. 9:22 continued: And I forgot to say that the CoPharmacy has alot of GREAT GREAT GREAT professors! And like anything that works extremly well, it works as a TEAM and thats what counts. So I will not let one hater take that away from all of the outstanding things that are going on at the COPharmacy!

  6. Dr. Henry Lewis has demonstated over the years that he is a great man. This most recent appointment is a testament to the confidence and respect that the reseach council have for this man. I feel that America and FAMU will benefit from this appointment. Thank God for Dr. Henry Lewis.

  7. "And all white people hole him in the highest esteem"

The question is "Would the faculty of the COPP hold Hank in high esteem?" Word on the street is when Hank was dean of the COPP, the faculty held secret meetings re: a vote of no confidence. Freddie G and Larry usurped them by firing ole Hank."

Some of these same faculty are beginning to talk mutiny (many left FAMU under Freddie G) if Hank is re-named dean.

  8. To 6/16/2007, 9:22 AM, he resigned because he wanted the presidency's seat. He sided with he BOT to get Gainous out and unknowingly to him, that eased the process to get Castell in. Talk to COPP faculty and staff before you spout off things from the street committee. He has not written not one grant.

  9. ^^^^^ Not one, but takes credit for ALL funded proposals.

He probably would have done well to stay in Texas with Miss "Prissy" Priscilla Slade, but then again maybe returning to Tally-ho saved his butt.

  10. Who do you think got the funds to build the new college of pharmacy building and helped it to grow to its current level before cast-hell tried to shut the doors. They wouldn't be on probation had he been allowed to serve on the accreditation committee. He also kept the few inept idiots on the faculty in check and made sure financial aid net checks were mailed on time when he was interim president. The only faculty he gave him a vote of no confidence were the ones who were afraid of his diligent, hard work and tough, decisive leadership. He resigned as dean because Gainous tried to undermine his every move(because he was afraid of him) and hold up funds that had been allocated to further the expansion of the program and even continue the normal day to day operation of the college. He is a hero who can still contributely greatly to the College of Pharmacy and the University and we are fortunate to have him
