In a press conference following this morning Board of Trustees meeting, FAMU President James Ammons said he was very close to naming a new FAMU football coach. The admission came in direct response to a question by the media. Dr. Ammons would not say who he was close to naming, however a December 17th special BOT meeting has been called to approve the new coaches' contract.

  3. Now can Ammons focus on the Boosters. We really need to get new leadership down there.

  4. Grambling State University & former North Carolina Central University head football coach
Rod Broadway has been seen in Tallahassee with a Realtor.

Anyone willing to guess who our next coach is now?

  5. The new head coach will be the dude who is at grambling who was coaching at NCCU. This is now the NCCU nation. It's no secret. Ammons knows what's best for us Rattlers. Shut up and go along with everything he says. Read between the lines people. Ammons is bringing his people in like he is supposed to do.

New Rattler stop being a fan and get us info like Rattler Nation use to. If you were going to be a cheerleader you should have partnered with the University blog board. Where is help when you need it?

Call me what you want. In your hearts you know I am telling the truth.

    I miss Fred.

  7. Who is Fred?

Fred Gainous? Fred Humphries? Fred who?

  8. Why shouldn't Rattler Nation support a university president who clearly has FAMU's best interests at heart and carries a proven track record of leadership?

The people we really need to watching and worrying about are at the Turlington Building and across the railroad tracks. The Board of Governors hasn't given up on its plan to take away FAMU's graduate and professional programs. And FSU hasn't given up its desire to take over the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.

Plus, there are still people loyal to Castell Bryant within our university and at the state capitol who want revenge on the pro-Ammons people who helped end her administration.

Dr. Ammons is not the bad guy here. Let's support him and focus our firepower against the people who are actually shooting at the university.

  11. Dr. Ammons is using the one of the "ships" to bring in his friends/buddys, but it might just come back to haunt him. Who are the other possible candidates for the head coaching position or is this an executive decision?

Mickey Clayton needs to go, the FAMU Boosters need a whole new direction especially after they ran out of food for the kick-off banquet but refunded no money. As a matter of fact, they served us Lindy's chicken.

I agree with change but when those "ships" are involved there is a possibility the "ship" might sink.

  12. I heard that the Marching 100 is going to play "On Broadway" during games in 2008...

It seems like this question as to who the new coach will be has already be solved.

  13. LOL that's some bs if I ever heard it. If he puts in about 10-15 years and some post season action they'll think about it... or just pay $5000.

  14. According to news-star paper in New Orleans:

Broadway’s incentive-laden Grambling deal begins with a base salary of $156,000 this year, then is scheduled to escalate to $162,000 for 2008, $169,000 in 2009 and finally $177,000 in 2010. The contract provides for no penalty if Broadway breaks the agreement.

This is a good thing, all he has to do is resign, then take our position. It is also reported that he interviewed with Duke, but I think that was just to satisfy to the BCA, because Navy's Paul Johnson interviewed yesterday.

  15. Here are my thoughts on the hireing of Hayes and possibly Broadway. I think that both these men knew that there would be a great possibility that their former boss would bring them with him, if Towensend and Carter did not have a steller season this year. I base this off the multi-year no out-penalty contract that Broadway had with GU. I think Ammons encouraged that move in order to get Broadway some expousure on a larger levels with in the HBCU circles, especially the rattlernation. Everyone already knew about "Dollar" Bill and how he has put NCCU's athletic department back on track. Just my opion.

Listen up for an announcement after the first of the year. Maybe sooner.

  17. Speculations about who the next football coach will be. We will all find out when Ammons makes the announcement that all of BCF is waiting for. Whomever he chooses we must all support his decision. Hopefully a coach that graduates his players.

  18. I dnt like all these NCCU people on our turf! Ammons get some new blood...we are FAMU for christ sake...not backwater grambling or nccu!

The people you really need to worry about are the ones who defraud the university, i.e. grade changing which could very well involve defrauding the federal government. Lets not forget about the state of Florida, which could very well bring charges against those who stole computer and office equipment. The FDLE is still looking at the more than "sloppy" accounting practices at the school.

If there is an enemy it is from within.

  21. If there is an enemy it is from within.

That list of problems was inherited from the interim administration. Castell failed to address the security issues in FAMU's grade records system despite being warned by the state auditors. Plus, there is computer equipment missing, but there's no evidence that it was stolen.

Dr. Ammons is doing the right things to fix Castell's mess and has fired most of her inept hires.

FSU and the Board of Governors are continuing their efforts to try and take away FAMU's graduate education programs. They are the key threats that FAMU needs to be watching.

  22. to the guy on 6:47,

I don't care if all the guys are from Booty Tech. If they can get the job done to our standards, so be it.

  23. What is this about Broadway in the running for the head coaching job at Duke University. Would he pick FAMU a Division IAA team over Duke a nationally ranked Division I team. The NCAA is under scrutiny for not having enough African American head coaches so, Broadway may be a shoo-in

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am not sure the last time that Duke University football program was nationally ranked in the top 25. Secondly, as a coach as young as Broadway is, I am not sure that the Duke job is best for him. He will only get about 3 years to turn the program around, while recruiting Ivy League capable player. With the competition in the current ACC, I am not sure this is the job for him, or that he is the right person for Duke. It is clear (according to newspaper reports out of Durham) Navy's Paul Johnson is the man (who has experience recruiting academic high achievers), and then the coach at Vanderbilt (the same experience as Johnson) is second on the list. Lets be clear, Dr. Ammons didn't schedule a board of trustees meeting for December 17, 2007 (two days after the SWAC championship game and a week before Christmas) to hire another coach that does not have any games to prepare for. Get use to seeing Broadway in Orange and Green!
