Ammons going after his coach

Conversations between Florida A&M and first-year Grambling State coach Rod Broadway heated up over the past few days... Broadway, who also interviewed for the vacant position at Duke earlier this week, is refusing to comment on the specifics of any available jobs.

Broadway previously worked at North Carolina Central where he lead that school to two CIAA championships and one Black College Championship before jumping ship to Grambling earlier this year. Broadway is no stranger to Florida, he served as a defensive line assistant at Florida under Steve Spurrier in the late-1990s.

According to the Northern Louisiana News Star FAMU is likely to offer Broadway a contract far richer than his current deal at GSU, which pays a base salary of $156,000 this year.

Broadway had previously been working under an agreement with a base of $100,000 at Division II NCCU.

Ammons has said he wants to introduce a new coach at FAMU by Dec. 17. That's the Monday after Broadway coaches his final regular season game of the 2007 season at Grambling.

  1. It just makes sense that Ammons goes in this direction. Broadway will make between 200,000 and 250,000 on the hill. The real question is how much will his OC and DC make. If I recall, Cole and Huff were only makeing about 80,000 a peice. If we up the anity like that, then we have to expect great coaching and recruiting year in and year out. Lets go Broadway!!!!

  3. What about Duke? I wonder how much there going to offer him, especially since black head coaches at the IA level are so scarce?
