FAMU takes its case to SACS

With a clean financial audit in his hands, FAMU President James H. Ammons has traveled to New Orleans to make the university's case to the Southern Association of Colleges of Schools. Ammons, a former member of the Commission on Colleges, is intimately familiar with the inner workings of SACS.

In October a five-member team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools were on campus to interview administrators, faculty, staff and students to determine if issues such as financial mismanagement and poor governance had been fixed said they were pleased at the progress the university has made since being placed on probation.

"In the three months since receipt of the notification, FAMU has made remarkable progress," Robert Gratz, chairman of the on-site accreditation committee, said in a news release.

Gratz added that a "broad range" of corrective action had been taken. The team said governance and the hiring of qualified administrators are "moot" issues now for FAMU.

With a clean financial report from state auditors FAMU hopes to be able to a stronger case before the full committee which will vote tomorrow.

  1. Praise the Lord!!! But SACS is located in Decatur, GA. Why is Ammons traveling to New Orleans to meet with SACS when it's located in Decatur?

  6. We all have great confidence in Ammons, and we are all confident that things will go accordingly. The man has done nothing short of engaging a complete miracle in the five months he's been at the university.

  7. It has just been announced on some other sites that SACS decided to extend FAMU's probation for six months.

SACS stating that they didn't receive the audit report in time.

I've heard the same thing. Extension of probation for six(6) months. This is disheartening.
