FAMU snapped a four game losing streak to upset MEAC leader Morgan State 90-89 in overtime Saturday. Darryl Demps, a freshman forward, who was only in the game less than two minutes because FAMU's other two big men Akini Akini and Larry Jackson had fouled out, made 1-of-2 from the free throw line with 13.7 seconds left to seal the win for the Rattlers.
The Rattlers improved to 11-14 (5-6 MEAC) with the victory. FAMU trailed by as many as 21 in the game, but closed the second half on a 17-4 run. Lamar Twitty's 3-pointer tied the game with 18 seconds left in regulation, and Lamar Smith's deep 3-pointer rattled out and the game went to overtime.
Twitty led the Rattlers with 28 points and 10 rebounds. He finished 10-of-14 from the field. Leslie Robinson added 23 points, and Akini and Jackson both scored 11.
Smith scored a game high 34 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bears (15-9, 9-2 MEAC), but he was forced to watch the games final sequence after his fifth foul sent Demps to the line.
