You just can’t help but be impressed with James Ammons and his team at Florida A&M University.
In just nine months, the Ammons’ team has turned around both the direction and the results at what was unmistakably a troubled institution.
I mean, just a week before he took office as the 10th president of his alma mater, FAMU’s accreditation was placed on probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Welcome aboard, congratulations and, oh, by the way ...
The management of the school’s finances was so bad that there was concern of criminal charges being brought. There were years of bad audits. And, it is an exaggeration to say FAMU’s inability to pay its employees on time could have been a story a week, but not much of one.
Its signature program, the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, also was on probation for its accreditation.
Enrollment was, not surprisingly, falling.

I happy to see the positive press trickle in...I hope to see other papers echo compliments to Ammons and the University for present and future work.

ReplyDeleteFudge the Dixiecrat!!!!
ReplyDelete^^^Exactly. This editorial reaks of backhanded compliments because that guy was one of the main ney-sayers during all of last year's turmoil. He publicized all his doubts about Dr. Ammons by calling him "no miracle worker" (FAMUans already know that FAITH without WORK is void so that was pointless) and now he's just trying to nicely save face, when in actuality, he and the other detractors (st pete times, orl sentinel, etc) are on that new low "crow" diet! lol
ReplyDelete^^^backhanded compliments = "relatively" clean audit. If the latest audit was relatively clean, then how does it earliest submission and lower citings compare to some other SUS's? They must be "filthy" right? I guess mentioning the state auditor's "permanent" parking space next to the president's was supposed to be humorous too right? Get back to posting fsu news all over your website since that's the only thing the demoncrat is good at!
