The Rattler baseball team swept a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader from Coppin (Md.) State, 8-6 and 15-0 Saturday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
The Rattlers (16-18, 8-5 in MEAC), extended their late-season winning streak to six games. The Eagles fell to 3-43 (0-14 in the MEAC).
In Game One
The Rattlers scored three runs in the bottom of the third to erase a 1-0 Coppin lead, then added two runs in the fourth and fifth and one more in the sixth to build what appeared to be a commanding 8-1 lead.
But FAMU let the Eagles fly back into contention in the late innings, as Coppin scored three runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to pull close.
In Game Two
FAMU finished with 17 hits, tossing a two-hitter through five innings, fanning five Eagle batters before the game was called due to the MEAC 10-run rule after five innings.
The young Rattlers, comprised mostly of freshman and sophomores, have a chance to sweep the series with Coppin on Sunday as they face the Eagles for their final home game of the season.
