With gas prices hovering at $4 a gallon, FAMU researchers in the College of Engineering Sciences Technology and Agriculture continue their entry into the biofuels area. Not only that, CESTA researchers are actively sharing what they know with area farmers. This Saturday, CESTA will hosts its 3rd biofuels workshop at the Crescent Moon Organic Farm in Sopchoppy,FL to help farmers and others interested in finding alternatives to rising energy cost, by learn more about biofuels. The workshop will focus on using vegtable oil as an alternative fuel source. CESTA plans to work with individuals interested in producing biofuels and those that have already started and want to improve their processes.

CESTA researchers believe that biofuels from plant and vegetable oils are an important part of the energy mix for alternative sustainable energy sources of the future. This hands-on biofuels workshop will provide information on the sustainability of biofuels and their benefits, plus a demonstration by Jack Simmons of Crescent Moon on how to make clean-burning biodiesel.

Crescent Moon uses the biodiesel it produces to power tractors, trucks and other equipment. The farm sells organically grown produce to restaurants, who have been providing the waste cooking oil used in making the fuel.
