Ex-NBA standout and entrepreneur Earvin “Magic” Johnson has partnered with FAMU to bring a star-quality addition to the campus’ food services. Subconnection Magic will offer made-to-order sandwiches in the area formerly known as the “Orange Room.” Johnson and Sodexho, the university’s dining contractor, chose FAMU as the first college to host the new eatery.

The sub shop is the latest brand name dining concept to enter FAMU. Sodexho added Pizza Hut and KFC during the 2003-2004 academic year. Subconnection Magic also follows President James Ammons’ promise to provide more variety in on-campus food options.

Old School Rattlers who miss the original Orange Room’s curly fries, buffalo wings, hush puppies, and catfish – don’t fear! “The Grill 155,” a new eatery adjacent to Magic’s restaurant, will serve menu items formerly offered by the Orange Room and more.

A special question for the grown Rattlers: What was your favorite memory from the Orange Room? The chicken fingers? The ladies or men walking in to cool-off from The Set? That "kicking" sound from the old A/C system?
