UPDATE: As expected, FAMU announced it has signed on with Victoria's Secret PINK brand and will become a part of it's collegiate collection.

V.S. PINK COO Richard Dent said that FAMU will join the company's line up of over 30 schools and colleges currently featured in the collection. In addition to FAMU, Howard, Hampton, Southern, and North Carolina A&T will be joining the PINK brand.

V.S PINK's collegiate collection launched this summer, and FAMU gear is expected to be in stores by Thanksgiving and online in time for the Christmas season.

FAMU set to go PINK
FAMU has scheduled a press conference for 9:30 am this morning to announce that it has signed-on with Victoria’s Secret PINK to become a part of its collegiate line. 2. RN, can you explain a bit more in detail what the "Pink" tour entails, what it represents, and what its collegiate marketing is all about?

  6. University leaders should never again complain about sexist messages directed at women and/or sexual messages sent to women. Such a public endorsement of VS, all in the name -- yes, I said it
-- "all in the name" -- of $$, discounts anything they have -- or will have -- to say. (Ok, I'll sit back & wait for the onslaught.) When the young ladies on campus show up half-dressed, improperly dressed, & half-naked in class, they (the young women) can salways say, "Well, the University says it's alright, because our association with VS is bringing in $$. I'm a black woman who teaches at the University, and many of the "outfits" these young women wear to class should only be worn behind seriously closed doors. But when Dr. Ammons and his leadership team and members of the BOT endorse such corporations as VS under the guise of "recruiting efforts," well, then, you get what you get. Yes. I know that a university's survival depends on $$, but somewhere along the way we must step up and go "Nancy Reagan" on folks.

Ok, I'm ready for the nay-sayers.

  7. Well 9:37 I'll be the first to say that while I understand and agree with what you're saying about improper the dress of the girls on our campus; the VS Pink line is a more tasteful representation of Victoria's Secret because it doesn't consist of any lingerie. Log on to VSPink.com and you will see that the Pink collegiate line consists of sweats, jackets t-shirts, and tote bags. The basic Pink line consists of loungewear, beach cover-ups, and pajamas. And as for the lingerie...well we all know that no on in their right mind is going to show up on campus in their drawers. Come on now. And you know just as well as I do that Dr. Ammons and the Collegiate License Association had already addressed those concerns before agreeing to partner with VS.
If you read the news you will see that in an effort to clean up their image in order to attract a more affluent demographic, they are focused on toning down their racy advertisements by focusing on the femininity and flirtiness of lingerie as opposed to their past "What is Sexy" advertisements.
The first way for them to do this was to aggressively market Victoria's Secret created Pink to target the college students that want a more feminine approach to collegiate wear.
No-one is denying that there are some girls who need to re-think their FAMU wardrobe, but in no way does the VS Pink line reflect this issue.

  8. 12:14, i teach at FAMU, also. you think folks don't "show up in their drawers"? well, during spring, summer and fall semesters, i've seen plenty of thongs peeking above too-low jeans and real under-garments. that's such as egregious. i agree with the 9:37 blogger. $$ trumps everything. and we cannot be sure that james ammons "addressed those concerns." $$ signs overrule a lot of things in today's market economy. without having seen the contract of do's & don'ts, no one really knows. i don't like 'pink' anyway. it's too girly-girly for my tastes. but hey, the color of $$ is green, and in this instance, apparently that's what matters most.

  9. To the poster at 12:14, I think the
blogger before you was just saying, among many things, that many times our ladies on the campus dress provocatively when they are out and about on campus, and we should not send mixed messages to young women by endorsing a company known for its skimpy "bedroom" attire. And that when we see those girls on campus looking all glammed up like they're getting ready to do some seriously private "entertaining," then the administration shouldn't have much to say. I don't think you understood the essence of the poster's comment. I think you need to go back and re-read it.

WE are all GROWN....just because FAMU decides to take on another opportunity does not mean they can control what females deem as respectable on their bodies..as a PROUD ALUMNUS of FAMU I say continue to make new changes and continue to be more open-minded....If females choose to wear their undergarment as outerwear than so be it....it's their decision and their bodies...NOT YOURS!...so get over it the deal is signed and I am looking forward to a few purchases myself!...SUPPORT OUR HBCU FAMILY FAMU AND STOP BRINGING IT DOWN EVERYTIME WE TRY TO RISE AND DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
