Today's showdown between Florida A&M and Southern University will be televised by two ESPN networks.

The intersectional clash, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET from A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will air live on ESPN360 (what ever the hell that is).

The game will also be replayed on a taped delay basis at 10:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.

Saturday's bout pits two of the all-time heavyweights in Black College Football - FAMU with 536 victories all-time and 12 national titles, against Southern, winners of 529 games all-time and 10 national championships.

This weekend's bash rekindles a long-time rivalry that ran from the 1940s to 2001 - one of the longest non-conference series in Black College Football.

The two schools got back together last year for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge with the Jaguars of Southern rallying past FAMU, 33-27 in Birimingham.

FAMU owns a slight edge in the all-time series, 32-25-1, but Southern has won the last two games .

There's be a lot of confusion about when this a game would actually air. This appears to be the latest.

Today's game could be last, for a while
Today's game finally begins a four-game contract between the two schools, who played the longest-running nonconference series in black college football history from the 1940s through 2001. However, the next time the schools will play, in Tallahassee, Fla., as well as the other two dates, has yet to be determined.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate Newspaper, because of expansion of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and other contracts, FAMU does not have an open date for next season.

In fact, today's game nearly didn’t happen in February, FAMU released a schedule without the game being played. South Carolina State had to agree to move its Oct. 18 game in Tallahassee to Oct. 4 to allow to play Southern.

According to a Florida A&M news release, “once the MEAC schedule for the years 2010 and beyond (is) finalized, then the series can possibly be resumed. There will be no game between the two clubs in 2009, as NCAA Division I FCS will return to an 11-game format, leaving no available open dates on the FAMU schedule.”

Because ESPN will be broadcasting the game, FAMCast will only be permitted to stream the audio portion of the game.
