FAMUans love to be number one. And today, Rattlers aim to take first place in another category: early voting.

The nonpartisan “Wake Up the Vote 2008” event will begin with a 9:30 a.m. rally outside Lee Hall. Then, students, faculty, staff, and administrators will march to the downtown Supervisor of Elections office to cast ballots.

President James Ammons, Provost Cynthia Hughes-Harris, Board of Trustees Vice-Chairman R.B. Holmes, Jr., County Commissioner Bill Proctor, and Student Body President Andrew Collins will all participate.

The “Wake Up” campaign marks the first day for early voting in Leon County. FAMU’s goal is to have 2,008 individuals vote in this year's election.

  1. I thought the goal was to have 2,008 people vote today? If we have 12,000 students registered, why only aim for 2,008 students? I'm guessing this is a typo RN...

  2. The 2,008 is for the year, 2008. Students have classes at 9:00 on Monday mornings. The 800 who did participate is impressive. Many students voted by absentee ballot, like my son.
