FAMU has appointed Richard Schweigert as interim chief financial officer and vice president for Finance and Administration, bringing back a familiar figure to oversee the university’s financial and administrative operations.
Schweigert previously served as the university's interim chief financial officer for about six months in 2019. His return comes as the university continues to navigate a period of significant administrative transition and heightened scrutiny of its finances and operations.
Schweigert will lead the Division of Finance and Administration, one of the university’s largest administrative divisions. The division is responsible for a broad range of functions, including budgeting, accounting, information technology, human resources and campus facilities.
His portfolio will include the Budget Office, Controller’s Office, Business and Auxiliary Services, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Facilities, Planning and Construction.
Most recently Schweigert has served as interim CFO at The College of NJ, and Southwestern University. He spent a decade as chief financial officer and director of Government Relations for the Colorado State University System. He left that position in 2016 after serving in the system’s senior financial leadership for 10 years.
Schweigert’s previous experience at FAMU gives him an advantage as he returns to an institution he already knows. His earlier tenure as interim CFO provided him with familiarity with the university’s financial structure, administrative operations and the challenges associated with managing a complex public university.
Schweigert in a pivotal administrative role at a time when financial management and institutional accountability remain central concerns for Florida’s public universities.
His immediate task will be to provide stability and continuity across the university’s financial and administrative operations while FAMU transitions to a new ERP system.
