I'm so sick of Julian White and this singing. We have more than 400 band members with horns and he chooses to sing. If we're going to sing at halftime, let FAMU's Chorus sing and leave the damn band in the stands. Better yet, leave the band in Tallahassee. It would be a lot cheaper to bring the Chorus. I'm sick of that woman with that bad sounding voice. She can't sing and Julian White needs to separate himself from her. Stop the singing and play those damn horns!!!!!!
Julian White, we're sick of you and that singing. You're beginning to make our band look like Morris Brown's. If you want to be a preacher, find you a church and let someone else direct the 100/
This coming from some dumbass who knows nothing about putting a halftime show together. Since you want to call out Dr. White, why don't you call Dr. White. The music department's number is 850 599 3334. Respect my band director, ho.
Well I didn't make that comment, but have been a paying season ticket holder for the last fifteen years and I must say that the singing makes me cringe everytime. And I certainly don't need to know how to put a halftime show together to know when I am not enjoying the show.
I'm sorry but the band loses me everytime they start singing- it was cute when they sang Total Praise, but then they took it to another level and turned into the glee club. I mean, what happened to the great musicianship that the band is known for?
Wow, The young lady that sung "Never Would of Made It" name is Star. Who gave you the decision to choose who performs or what to perform. Dr. White is over the Music dept and has been the Director for years. Apparently he was the man to get the job done. Now if you were supportive of the school and the band, YOU would keep these type of comments to yourself and be seen and not heard. Not all comments need to be made or placed on the blog. So I will be the first to say to you,"Shut up and learn how to have a relationship with God!God knows how ignorant your thought process is, we didn't until know"!
Stop the singing and play the instruments. Julian White is not a good band director at all. I know several high school band directors, from FAMU that can do a much better job in directing the 100.
Please leave Star in the sky and let our musicians do what they do best......play instruments.
You all who are making these ignorant comments on this site better watch it! Take all of your negativity over to Cookman and learn a little something about show planning. Leave that to the professionals. And please stop disrespecting MY Director of Bands. The Hundred was marvelous this weekend for those of you that could not make it.
Mel & 5:22: Dissent and disagreement are not "disrespect" or ungodliness. That's why this blog was created-so that those who have opinions or comments can voice them. And if you disagree then do just that, disagree. But don't discount criticism, because no one has a problem with the opinions when the band is receiving accolades and praise and the posters on this blog have no problem giving congratulations and praise where it is due. Besides, the egos of us Rattlers are so big that there's not much criticism that could hurt the band anyway...that is, unless your skin isn't thick enough to take the heat.
And not everyone on this blog is knocking Star's singing talents- I actually think that she is a great singer. But there comes a time when enough is enough. When the consumers who pay to see the show('cause we know that many of us only go to see the half-time show) don't like the show, then it's time to come up with new ideas for the show. If we don't like it then we just don't like it! We don't have to be band directors to know whether we like what we see or hear.
I personally like it when the band plays and doesn't turn into a choir. It doesn't bother me that the band sings every once in a while but when they play that song it's just god-awful. I'm sorry. That's not negativity- that's just the truth.
^^^^^^Quite honestly all of you all can go to you know where. Opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one. If you have better ideas of what the Hundred should be doing then call the Department of Music at 850-599-3024 and ask for Dr. Julian E. White and let him tell what you can do with your opinions. If you don't like it then don't bring your butts to the games. Because for every one person that has heard the band play something before, there's 100 more that have not. Learn something about marching bands before you open your ignorant mouths!!!!!!
Leave the instruments in the stand and put on choir robes or play the instruments and stop singing. Quite frankly, it was embarrassing listening to that woman sing during halftime. That has gotten old and it devalue's the band in my opinion.
Although I have never been in the band, I am one of its greatest fans. First for those who say that the singing on the field is played out, lets look at what our band has done. A few weeks ago NC A&T did an entire show with a choir on the field singing gospel music. At the Atlanta Classic TSU’s band had two of their members sing “Feel the Fire,” and this past weekend BCU had Plize or whatever his name is on the field. All of this (in my opinion) is in response to the innovation of the Hundred’s ability to capture the true essence of what a diverse audience wants to hear. Therefore, I have to agree with the band members on this one. It is hard to innovate, and stay ahead of the game when you are the most imitated band in America. If you live in Tallahassee, you are spoiled by the band; therefore, you expected to see new excited things ever week. (Remember people, the band is made up of mostly 18-21 year old college students, who also have at least 12-15 college hours.) I think for those individuals that are criticizing Dr. White so much must ask themselves two questions; first, would you be able to handle an extra activity that requires as much time as this band does while performing above average in your regular job? Then ask yourself how you would feel if Dr. White or any band member came to your job and told you how to do your extra curricular activity better, especially when you know they are not going to give you one red cent for doing it the way that they suggested you do it. Finally, I have to say that the hundred did a great job this weekend; you have always represented our university well!!
The 100 is the best band in the world. We don't need to sing in concert. I don't know the name of the song that they played in concert during homecoming, but it sound great. Please continue to play your instruments and leave the singing on the shelf.
Time to put "never would have made it" on the shelf !!!!
ReplyDeleteI was just bout to type that!!!
ReplyDeleteThat song was played out back when Marvin Sapp sang it.
Did Cookman walk through the 100? I'm glad they didn't fight them on national TV, but I hope business was handled when the cameras went off!!
