The FAMU men and women dropped the first game of a two game MEAC road swing to the northeast yesterday. The Rattlers lost to UMES 54-50, while the Lady Rattlers lost to the Lady Hawks 45-38.

The lost dropped the Rattlers to 6-11 overall, 4-2 MEAC. The Rattlers were held to just five points in the final 9:58 minutes of the game.

Florida A&M shot just 32.1 percent from the field (17 of 53) and was 3 of 21 from behind the arc. Lamar Twitty scored 14 points to lead the Rattlers.

Both the Rattlers and Lady Rattlers travel to Delaware State on Monday.

  1. Oh well, we never know which Rattler team is going to show up. I've watched several games this year and the men's & women's team have one thing in common; we have too many players that simply aren't that good. Our shooting is terrible and some of our men are so uncoordinated that it's pathetic. I don't think that Coach Harris is our biggest problem. The biggest problem are these non talented players. Some of these players just can't shoot worth a damn.

  2. The mens team is very young but scrappy, in the long run they'll be all right.

  3. I don't expect FAMU to win the MEAC this year on the men's or women's side. The teams are very inconsistent and they lack the size needed to compete at a championship level. I hope the recruiting improves over the off season.

  4. I haven't heard anything but I understand that the football roster is looking more mature. If the proper things are put in place, there is a shot for great progress in recruiting overall. Website?

  6. As a person who has followed FAMU basketball very closely for the last 10 years (seeing 5-6 games per year and attending the MEAC Tournament every year), I like what I see. Coach Harris has an abundance of talent. He is playing almost 10 persons a game mostly freshmen and they are still holding their own with other teams. He also has a body n the center with Cecil Bent who is a freshman and will dominate the MEAC in years to come. I will predict he will be one of the best true centers FAMU has had in years. The team is balanced and can score inside and outside. Because there are so many new players they are still trying to learn each other and all of their plays. I am excited about men's basketball at FAMU.

The women on the otherhand, I cannot get a handle on them. Completely out of rhthym at the DSU game. Could not really access the talent or the coaching capability.

In terms of height, the ladies have more height than I have seen in years. In the past the team would have tons of short fast cards. This coach is going with more forwards and greater height. The men's team also has some height this year.
