FAMU released its 2009 football schedule this afternoon. The Rattlers will play an 11 game schedule this year, highlighted by an October 10th game at the University of Miami.

FAMU signed a two-year deal with Miami to face the Hurricanes in 2009 and 2010. The back-to-back games against Miami are the first since the 1979 and 1980 seasons. FAMU will be paid upwards of $500,000 for each game against Miami.

Gone from the '09 schedule are SWAC foes Alabama State and Southern.

Also, FAMU has yet to designate a homecoming date but are said to be eyeing either Nov. 7 against North Carolina A&T or Oct. 24 against Norfolk State.

  1. I vote for homecoming to be the 24th. It gives the band a couple of weeks to put a show together. ;-)

  2. I thought the administration said it wanted to avoid playing Division 1A schools for awhile. I guess that big payday speaks volumes.

  4. muck you! The band is in the contract. Where are you? If anything the game should be that day to allow for travel arrangements for homecoming.

  5. If we can;t have a big game in Miami with anyone else, its worth the market share.

  6. Homecoming and FL Classic in the same month would put major financial strains on Rattler fans wallets during an uncertain economic climate. This could possibly force folks to choose between which game would be the cheaper to attend, thus adversely affecting the revenue of one of the games. An earlier homecoming would be the solution so my vote is for 10/24.

  7. "Good Insight!"

In addition ... Playing in Miami the weekend aftr the ATL Classic will likely also affect the attendance in the ATL to boot.

Why travel all the way to the ATL again for essentially the same corny old routine ... when there's now something NEW going on the very next week?
