The FBI, Capitol Police, and Smyrna (Ga.) Police Department are investigating a hate act directed against Congressman David Scott (D-Georgia), a FAMU alumnus. Yesterday, Scott’s Smyrna district office staffers arrived at work to find a swastika painted over the sign bearing his name.
Scott, who represents a majority white district, believes the hate message is a result of his deliberations over the health care reform plan now being debated in the nation’s capitol. He has also received hate mail, including a fax filled with racial epithets, that said, in part, "the folks are not going to stand for socialized medicine even though most Negros refuse to stand on their own two feet."
Even before this incident the Anti-Defamation League, an organization dedicated to fighting Anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in the United States, had condemned efforts by a small but vocal number of opponents of health care reform to use Nazi imagery in attacks on the Obama Administration and supporters of the plan.
“Trying to link one of the most heinous symbols of hatred against the Jewish people to a legislative proposal is despicable beyond words," said ADL Southeast Regional Director Bill Nigut.

Sad. My prayers go out to the congressman, his staff and their families.
ReplyDeleteThese people are incredibly stupid. They are led around by the nose by the Republicans while the health care and drug companies steal them blind. The Congressman and the rest of us are victims of out-of-control right-wing Republican terrorists.
ReplyDeleteClassic stuff. You send out the Neo-Nazis and religious freaks and get them a lot of pub, so that the regular right wingers can look normal and sane.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see the Obama presidency and the healthcare issue shine light on the level of stupidity and hatred displayed throughout America. Our enemies have been exposed. TAKE HEED and govern yourself accordingly.
ReplyDeleteI think an overly aggressive health care supporter did it to make the health care opponents look like kooks.
ReplyDeleteYou should read the health care bill before you throw your support behind it.
ReplyDeleteI hope it never passes in its current form. I have pretty good health care today.
This bill steals from medicare - thus hurting your grandmother. This bill forces employers to do things that they cannot afford to do...ultimately resulting in a single payer rationed system.
Read the bill.
Be informed.
We need health care reform, but we do not need this bill. Call your senator and congressman.

ReplyDeleteThere are currently 5 versions of "proposed" bills, which might you be refering?
At the rate of current "over pricing" by the industry there will be NO medicare to steal from!
Limiting FRIVOLOUS law suits would cut some costs drastically. Also, realize that you will not find a Nazi behind every swastika.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think tort reform would do more to reign in health care costs than anything.
ReplyDeleteNo 6:30, they're not. The other ones behind it is the KKK...in suits and ties.
ReplyDeleteAlong with tort reform, there should be a cap on insurance and drug company profits. If we're going to level the playing field, level the playing field. 'm tired of paying for bloated bonuses, homes in the Caribbean, and yachts.
We paid insurance premiums for 30 years before Andrew. Insurance companies made billion upon billions in profits. One disaster, and they kick policyholders to the curb. Even after they paid the claims (those that did, the payout had nowhere near the value of the loss), they turned a profit that same year ('92). To make matters worst, those that stayed were allowed to separate the wind portion of the policies from the rest of it, thereby making a way to increase their profits even more. So, screw you and the insurance companies. REFORM NOW!

ReplyDeleteI hope that you have some good "P", 'cause I have a BIG "D".[that addresses the screwing, of which I am a BIG PROPONENT"].
NOW, regarding your comments please know that the INSURANCE COMPANIES are STATE and FEDERALLY REGULATED. The Beaurocracy of such is so convoluted that the insured must ask or make certain that all ” I’s” are dotted and “ T’s” are crossed. Your personal loss during KATRINA is very unfortunate. However, consider what services you sought and premium you paid. I live in Florida and KNOW that I need an ADDITIONAL RIDER on MY POLICY for WATER DAMAGE. IF I LIVED BELOW SEA LEVEL, BELIEVE ME THAT I WOULD HAVE PROPER COVERAGE. The “BIG EASY” is such and I, personally, would not live there without that coverage, whatever the premium cost.
Insurance companies DO NOT LIKE TO PAY OUT. THEY LOVE TAKING IN. This you know. What are your options? What coverage did you obtain?
BTW - You and 8/14/2009 2:53 PM had better wake up to the reality of this get prepared for this current hurricane season. I wish you the best.
