FAMU’s open campus makes it particularly vulnerable to criminal acts by individuals who have no business being on The Hill.
“We have an open campus, so most crimes are [committed by] people from outside the university,” FAMU Sgt. Sherri Luke told the Gainesville Sun.
In 2008, FAMU had the second highest rates of violent and property crimes in the State University System. New College topped the list.
FAMU’s police department is responding by stepping up its identification checks and enforcement of curfews in the dormitories.
FAMU PD probably reports everything correctly, while other PD Depts. conceal crimes to make their stats look good.
ReplyDeleteFAMU PD needs to start asking for Student IDs on the random if they are not already. Anyone without one needs to get the hell on. If they give you any mouth, taser them on the spot and drag 'em off like V for Vendetta.
ReplyDeleteCan't let our campus get this Hood reputation.
8:09 might be right. There has been a problem with serious underreporting of campus crime. I think it will take legislation to get something enforceable about who can be on college campuses and who can't be. As it stands, public colleges/universities cannot bar tax paying citizens from the grounds. But in the interest of public safety, we might need to push for a special designation for public colleges and universities, which would allow only invited guests and university participants on campus.
ReplyDelete9:15am get real! You sould like a Tea Party nut case.....FAMU PD should act more like College Cops and not try to be AHoles like "reg" cops...Firm but Fair should be their motto...and Students should not be thier target but losers who committ crimes...having said that we as FAMUANS must point out people we KNOW have a criminal elment about them when we see them on campus....UCF that is a DAMN LIE N JOKE I KNOW!!!! Just two years ago they had over 69 damn rapes!!! And I knw they Jux the stats as they say in law enforcement...it seems to me that FAMU needs to take the good bad practices from white folk and do the same damn thing.....
ReplyDeleteTry putting up the stats of EWC (Edward Waters College). I bet we will look good then. Lol
