For the third year in row the defending Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference champion South Carolina State Bulldogs was the consensus pick to win the conference title in 2010. The Florida A&M Rattlers finished second in the preseason poll.

Five Rattler players were named to the Preseason All-Conference First Team.

Philip Sylvester, 5-7 senior running back from Marianna, Fla., was the Rattlers second leading rusher as he finished the season with 455 yards on 112 carries with seven TDs.

Joining Sylvester on the preseason all-conference first team was Isaac West, a 6-2 senior wide receiver from Tallahassee, Fla., who led the Rattler receiving core with 641 receiving yards on 36 catches with two TDs.

The defensive players who earned Preseason First Team All-Conference honors for the Rattlers were Alvis Graham, Qier Hall and Trevor Scott.

Graham, 6-0 red-shirt junior from Orlando, Fla., was FAMU’s leading tackler as he finished the season with 69 tackles (39 solo, 30 asst), 6.5 tackles for a loss of 18 yards and had one sack on the season for a loss of seven yards.

Hall, a 6-2 senior defensive back from Cocoa, Fla., tallied 42 tackles (29 solo, 13 asst) to be the team’s fifth leading tackler with six pass breakups and three interceptions.

Rounding out the cast of FAMU first teamers is Scott, a 6-3 red-shirt junior punter from Jacksonville, Fla., finished last season as the Rattler’s leading scorer with 74 points, by going 38 of 39 in PATs and connecting on 12 field goals in 22 attempts.

FAMU will officially kickoff their 2010 season on Monday, August 9 as they report for two-a-day practices. The Rattlers will open their 2010 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 2 as they will take on University of Miami at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

  1. FAMU will go undefeated this year, starting with UM. We will spank UM, then run the table.

Get those Season Tickets and support the Mighty Rattlers.

  2. You know 11:44, you might be onto something with Coach Taylor.

Did you know in the third year of his two previous coaching jobs, his teams won the conference and won 10 or more games?

@ 1986: Virginia Union (11-1, CIAA Champions, NCAA playoffs).

@ 1994: Hampton (10-1, CIAA Champions, SBN Black College Ntl Champs).

Get Those Season Tickets Now Rattlers because Oct. 2 will be FAMU-S.C. State, equal to Mayweather-Pacquio.

In 2010, the road to the MEAC title comes through Tallaahassee.

  5. Not this year ,5-6 season. The question is quarterback and lineman which he does not have. And no back-ups.Please evaluate the team before making unrealistic coments.

  6. I've already evaluated the team and that is the reason I predict 11-0!! We have good depth at every position. This will be a very good team. Our QB is very talented and he has 1 or 2 backups that are very capable of helping us will. This is the best OL & DL FAMU has had in a long time. We will definitely clean a lot of opponents' greens this year.

    11-0!!

    The Rattlers Are Back!!

  7. Lacking depth especially on the special team unit.Very weak special team. The special team unit will be expose. With depth, you must have experience. You can have 60 guys on a team. But only have 34 players with playing experience.

  8. FAMU can not go undefeated this year...they are opening the 2010 season against the University of Miami Hurricanes in Joe Robbie Stadium (Dolphin Stadium, Sun Life Stadium)

    GO CANES !

  9. Yay for cake azz Canes fans on Rattler Nation...------> that way

Anyways, who's the negative nancy talking about gong 5-6...the only question mark on FAMU's team this year is the O-Line, and I think they will hold up pretty well. We have a very dynamic backfield on offense with a pretty decent(and young) QB in Ukpai.

I think we will be pretty nice on defense this year.

These boys on FAMU's team are HUNGRY for a championship...TRUST ME

  10. I luv the CANES !!!!!!

  11. The Rattlers will probably be 9-2 this year with losses to Miami and SCSU. Hopefully, FAMU will get an at-large bid to the playoffs since the field has been expanded. I wouldn't be shocked if FAMU beat the Bulldogs, but it seems like SCSU has the Rattlers' number.

  12. Special Teams are our strongest unit. Kicker Trevor Scott is much stronger & consistent. We have 2 (TWO!) punters that can boom them 60 yards in the air with 10 seconds hang time. We have talented athletes at every position and Coach Taylor is a great coach. So I'm predicting 11-0 which means UM will be the first to get snake bitten. There's no way UM will beat FAMU this year. NO WAY!!!

    FAMU, NATIONAL CHAMPS!
    11-0!

  13. 10-1. We HAVE to beat the Bulldogs this year, and i think we will.

    GO CANES !!!

  17. 8:12 you don't know football. It's a shame for you to even talk about the game of football.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 4:40 PM, what makes you a football expert? FAMU is loaded this year and I expect us to go 11-0 in regular season of play, then run the tables in the playoff.

    FAMU WILL BEAT UM!

  19. I played football for 13 years.college and pro. Therefore, I know the game as well as coach the game of football. I quess you're a sofa and chair athlete.Or otherwise a frustrated athlete.I know one thing for sure, you FAMU folks are ig-nor-ant.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 6:18 PM, so that explains it. You're a FAMU hater. Why? Were you denied entrance to FAMU? For someone "who played college & professional football", your knowledge of the game leaves a lot to be desired.

    FAMU - NATIONAL CHAMPS.

    6:18 PM - NATIONAL CHUMP

  21. What team are you all looking at they look Terrible don't even leave Tallahassee on September 1, 2010, just take the money and run!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You started the foul when you root against the home team on this site or any other. FAMU and UM has a very amiable relatonship and I think it would be that way even when FAMU beats the 'canes. Now I like Miami but I check myself and my fanaticism at the door of Rattler Nation. Go FAMU. These people need to be screened or at least vetted as Rattlers. Better yet drop the anonymous people and force membership.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So pick on FAMU all you want, don't get mad cause nobody else in fbs (cartel run/beauty pageant football)is worried about your team. Gives a damn if Shannon is cute, if that bench isn't deep enough you lose. And name calling mr football coach- you wouldn't care to put your name and record as a coach on the line. What type of players are you grooming? Future slaves? I hope they won't end up like 78% of former pro football players. We know you're discouraging anyone to come our way so get the hell of RATTLER NATION dude.

  24. 6:18 get off our d***! You won't get paid.

  25. Famu Football fans, please come out of the clouds, this is not the team of the late 70's it is 2010 and the team needs some help.

Perhaps some of you all need to suit up we might have winning chance.
