John Tracy, chief technology officer for the Boeing Company and senior vice president of engineering operations and technology, will present a seminar at FAMU in Lee Hall Auditorium on Wednesday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to noon. A question and answer session will immediately follow the seminar.

Tracy’s topic titled “The Leveraging of Academic Research with Corporate Business and Technology Strategy” may help reinforce the important roles FAMU and Boeing share in furthering science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) graduates for which FAMU is a formidable team player.

“It is an honor and privilege to host John Tracy for this important activity — to have such a highly distingushed scientist and administrator to share his perspectives with our students, staff, faculty and administration,” said K. Ken Redda, interim vice president for the Divison of Research at FAMU. “This is just another opportunity for FAMU to promote STEM partnerships with the industry."

Tracy is responsible for defining and implementing corporate strategies for attaining and maintaining technical and functional excellence across the enterprise.

In addition to serving on Boeing’s executive council, Tracy oversees the development and implementation of the enterprise technology investment strategy and provides strategic direction to several functions and business organizations comprised of more than 100,000 employees. Examples include the engineering, operations, and suppliers’ management functions, and also the information technology, enterprise technology strategy, research and technology, test and evaluation, intellectual property management and environment, health and safety organizations.

Tracy received his doctorate in engineering from the University of California, and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in physics from California State University. Tracy is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the former chair of the ASME 6,000-member Aerospace Division. He is also a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Royal Aeronautical Society. The Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC) named him 2006 Hispanic Engineer of the Year; he was named one of the Most Important Hispanics in Technology by Hispanic Engineer and Information Technology magazine; and he was inducted into the HENAAC Hall of Fame in 2009.
