"I was heavily influenced by the need to be respectful
to Robert Champion's family as well as the other victims," Ammons said.
"A young man lost his life and others suffered serious injuries."
Ammons said that the university must take its time to make
absolutely sure that the band and every other campus organization is as safe as
possible for all the students who participate.
"So we will work to get these things done," he
told university trustees. "But I do think there is a period we should take
to ensure that these measures are in place and we have addressed all the
institutional issues.”
