Antonia Bennett, a FAMU alumnus and four-year star on the Lady
Rattlers basketball team, is entering the international professional ranks. She has inked a contract with the Poland Lotos, a franchise within the European Basketball League.
Coach LeDawn Gibson says she never had any doubt that Bennett had what it took to play at the professional level.
"We knew Antonia was the caliber of player that could
play at the next level. Combine that with the work ethic that she
displayed, it's no surprise to us that she'll have the opportunity to
play at the next level," Gibson said.
Bennett says she can't wait to suit up and hit the court for the country of more than 38 million citizens.
"I feel really
good about getting the chance to play in Poland. It will be a new
experience, coupled with the opportunity to see a different part of the
world. I'm excited about the opportunity to continue to play ball,"
Bennett said.
Bennett, who earned a degree in criminal justice, received the
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year award in 2012 after leading the Lady Rattlers to a 21-win
season.
