Former U.S. President Bill Clinton brought FAMU alumnus
Alfred “Al” Lawson a big gift on Friday, Nov. 2nd: his endorsement.
“Listening to President Clinton lay out the contrasting
visions of our party and the Republican party, I was reminded of why I was
inspired to run to represent North Florida,” Lawson said.
Clinton announced his formal support for Lawson’s Congressional
bid after Lawson introduced him at a Florida State University rally. The former
president was in Tallahassee to stump for the reelection campaign of U.S.
President Barack Obama.
At the rally, Clinton told the audience that Democrats like Obama
and Lawson advocate “an economic policy that says we build the country from the
bottom up and the middle out, not by trickle down.”
Lawson added that he is committed to working across party
lines just like Clinton did during his days in the Oval Office.
“President Clinton also spoke of the need to build a
bipartisan consensus and talked about ‘a policy-making process that is based on
evidence, not extremist ideology,’” Lawson said. “While my opponent [U.S. Rep.
Steve Southerland] has voted with his party 93 percent of the time, I have a
strong record of working across the aisle and will put the needs of my
constituents first in D.C.”
