FAMU tag sales in Florida raise $422,011 in 2011

The Florida Division of Motor Vehicles sold 17,995 FAMU specialty license plates in the fiscal year ending in 2011. It pulled in $422,011 in net revenue.

FAMU’s sales figure beat out a number of notable competitors that included: the Jacksonville Jaguars, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, Orlando Magic, Florida International University, and Florida Marlins.

FAMU ranked #26 overall in tag sales. The University of Florida claimed the top spot, with 101,014 tags sold and $2,395,150 in net revenue. Florida State University was second with 64,520 tags sold and $1,518,500 in net revenue.

The DMV sold 17,658 FAMU tags in 2010, 21,594 in 2009, 20,961 in 2008, 20,659 in 2007, 20,616 in 2006, and 20,356 in 2005.

A FAMU tag costs $25.00 (plus registration fees). The money from tag sales goes to “academic enhancement” at the university.

FAMU has participated in the specialty license plate program since 1987.
