FAMU alumna leaving VH1 reality series “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta”

FAMU alumna Kimberly Michelle Pate (pictured right), better known by her stage name “K.Michelle,” is parting ways with a popular cable television reality series.

Pate is a currently in her second season as a cast member of the VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.” She told Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta that she’s leaving the show and moving to New York City.

“It’s time to go,” Pate said. “I’ve conquered a lot here.”

She credited her FAMU education with helping her launch the next phase of her career.

“I have a huge business venture that people will be like, ‘how did she pull that off?’ You’ll hear about it,” she said. “I am a college graduate. I graduated from Florida A&M. I was Miss FAMU. I pledged Delta Sigma Theta…It’s just really time to go from Atlanta. It’s been good to me. But I have a lot of other business working in New York.”

Pate won the Miss Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University election during the spring semester of 2003 but was wasn't able to serve in the position due to circumstances that forced her to take time off from school. She graduated with a degree in psychology.

The FAMU alumna has signed a new contract with Atlantic Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Music. Her new album, “Rebellious Soul,” is set to be released later this year.
