FAMU is slated to be the only Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) football team to appear on the flagship ESPN station in 2013. The ABC-owned
sports channel, which currently
reaches 98.5 million homes, has signed on to
broadcast the first game of the upcoming Rattler season.
The Orange and Green gridders will take center stage when
ESPN airs the ninth annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge presented by Disney featuring FAMU
and Mississippi Valley State on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Orlando, Fla. The game
will air live at 11:45 a.m. ET on ESPN.
ESPN Classic will show the Florida Classic featuring FAMU
and arch-rival Bethune-Cookman. The game will re-air on ESPNU on November
24.
“We are excited to feature a competitive 2013 MEAC football
television schedule on the ESPN networks,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis
Thomas. “The MEAC’s partnership with ESPN offers unique opportunities to
highlight our talented student-athletes, coaches, and institutions on a global
landscape.”
All games will also be available on computers, smartphones,
tablets, Xbox and Apple TV via
WatchESPN.
