FAMU found a dramatic way to spoil Alabama State’s homecoming this afternoon, blocking a field-goal attempt in the final seconds to secure a 28-27 victory over the Hornets at ASU Stadium.


The Rattlers survived a game in which Alabama State controlled the ground attack and piled up nearly three times as many rushing yards, 274 on 54 carries to FAMU's 96 yards on the ground. But freshman quarterback Armond Parker delivered an explosive performance through the air, and the FAMU defense came through when the game was on the line.


Parker completed 13 of 20 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns, giving the Rattlers a potent passing attack that helped offset their struggles on the ground. He also threw two interceptions, leaving room for Alabama State to remain within striking distance.


FAMU finished with 386 yards of total offense, narrowly surpassing Alabama State’s 381.  


The victory came before 16,994 spectators at ASU Stadium, where kickoff was at 11:06 a.m. and the game ended at 2:20 p.m., capping a contest that lasted three hours and 14 minutes.


The win game FAMU first-year head Coach Quinn Gray his first division 1 victory, and improved the Rattler's recored to 2-4 overall (1-1 SWAC).
