But at yesterday’s FAMU Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation,
he told current Rattler students that they don’t need a high-profile position
or title to make a difference.
“You don’t have to be elected to lead,” Meek said. “You know
what you must do and what you have to do.”
Meek urged FAMU students to take up King’s legacy by finding
ways to serve those around them. He shared the deeply personal story of how he,
as a freshmen college student who struggled with dyslexia, found many helping
hands at the Florida’s only historically black public university.
“This institution wrapped its arms around me as it has
wrapped its arms around so many of us,” he said.
