“We are pleased that we have approved the terms of the
presidential contract and in speaking with Dr. Elmira Mangum tonight, she has
agreed to accept the terms in the updated contract,” FAMU Board of Trustees
Chairman Solomon Badger, III, said in written statement. “We look forward to
our meeting with the Board of Governors on February 20 to confirm her
appointment.”
On Thursday afternoon, FAMU trustees narrowly approved an
employment agreement that met all of the major requests that Mangum made.
FAMU trustees approved those changes with a 8-4 vote.
The board did make one modification to the contract offer.
The new terms state that Mangum will only receive a six month paid sabbatical
if she leaves the presidency before the end of the three year agreement.
Mangum will receive a base salary of $425,000 per year.
