If you've found yourself nodding your head and tapping your feet to the music in movies like “Despicable Me 2” or television shows like “Being Mary Jane” on BET, then you may have been listening to some of the music supervision work of FAMU alumnus Amir Windom.

Windom is credited with helping create film and television soundtracks, original songs and scores for popular films and television shows such as "Despicable Me 2,” "Being Mary Jane", "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man,” “Takers,” “SWAT 2,” “Tyler Perry's: Why Did I Get Married 2,” and “Stomp the Yard 2.”

Windom's most recent work, “Happy,” a song performed by Grammy award-winning rapper, songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, was nominated for an Oscar at the 2014 Academy Awards for the Best Original Song category.

"I arrived at FAMU thinking I wanted to be successful. I left FAMU knowing I wanted to be significant,” said Windom, a 2008 graduate, about the role the FAMU's School of Journalism & Graphic Communication played in shaping his career. “My success truly is a reflection of the unwavering love and support I get from my family, friends and of course the FAMU family.”

A recipient of FAMU's distinguished 40/40 Young Alumni Award, Windom is one of the youngest entertainment executives to hold positions at the music industry's top record labels, including: Atlantic Records, Def Jam Records and Bad Boy Records.

Windom has also been behind the development and management of today's biggest stars in the music industry, such as Bruno Mars, the band "fun", T.I., Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B., Trey Songz and Kanye West, to name a few.

When he is not in the studio or on the road, Windom serves the community as an active participant of the Grammy Foundation, 100 Black Men of America, Inc., the Boys & Girls Club of America, the Hip Hop Institute, Bridge Da Gap and the United Negro College Fund.

He is also a motivational speaker and mentor and has delivered keynote addresses at Harvard University, University of Southern California, New York University, the University of Kentucky, the UNCF Empower Me Tour, Steve Harvey's Mentoring Summit and the Radio One Music Summit.

Windom is also a respected and renowned brand marketer, as he has contributed to the success of bestselling author Kevin Liles' “Make it Happen Tour” and the “Respect My Vote” tour featuring Jay-Z, John Mayer, Russell Simmons and Mary J. Blige. Further, Windom lent his creative talents in creating global marketing campaigns for brands such as Kodak, Adidas and ESPN.

His recent honors include: ASCAP A&R/Music Executive of the Year Award, the Radio One Emerging Leading Award, Hip Hop Caucus Music & Philanthropy Award, Cleveland Music Festival Gaining & Giving Award and the Who's Who in Atlanta recognition.
