On August 19, VH1 debuted her musical entitled “K.Michelle:
Rebellious Soul - The Musical” in its 10:00 p.m. airtime slot. The “R&B
Opera” told the fictitious story of a woman struggling to break the cycle of
bad romance.
Idris Elba, who played Nelson Mandela in the 2013 film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” directed the special.
“It’s really crazy to see how humble and down to earth this
man is,” K.Michelle said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Online. “Directing,
he's so creative. He’s so in the zone. Nothing distracts him and he's not going
to let anything distract that cast.”
The musical featured nine songs from the Rebellious Soul album
on Atlantic Records, which debuted as number one on Billboard’s “Top R&B/ Hip Hop
Albums.” K.Michelle celebrated the album by headlining “The Rebellious Soul
Tour” late last year and opening for Robin Thicke on his “Blurred Lines Tour”
in 2014.
The FAMU alumna won the Best New Artist honor at the 2013 Soul Train Awards. She got her big break on national television by starring in VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta”
reality television show for two seasons (2012-2013). K.Michelle is currently a
cast member of “Love and Hip Hop (New York).”
