The Hurricanes built an early 28-0 lead, but the Rattler
defense snuffed out Miami’s second drive thanks to freshman defensive back
Darren Parker’s end zone interception.
Junior defensive back John Boston put the Rattlers on the
board in the inside the final minute of the half. He pounced on a fumble in the
end zone, chased the ball after a bad snap sent to ball towards the Hurricane’s
end zone.
In the second half, FAMU allowed just 13 points to UM, which outgained the Rattlers offensively, 416 to 114 yards.
Appalachian State transfer running back Tysean Holloway led
the FAMU ground game with 32 yards on 15 carries, while freshman Gerald Hearns
added 10 yards on nine carries.
Quarterback Damien Fleming passed for 89 yards, completing
six of 14 passes in three quarters, before being spelled by sophomore Carson
Royal, who went 0-for-3 passing.
Brandon Norwood led FAMU in pass receptions with three
catches for 74 yards, including a long play of 41 yards.
Linebacker Akil Blount led the Rattlers with seven tackles,
followed by Jacques Bryant, who had five tackles and a 22-yard interception
return, which ended another potential UM scoring drive in the second half.
