On Friday, FAMU won at South Carolina State (2-21, 2-4 in
MEAC), 25-14, 25-19, 25-13. The team was paced by Tamar Fowler, who led with 12
kills, followed by MEAC Rookie of the Year candidate Pamela Soriano with 10. Sydni
Etheredge and Ginna Lopez-Chavez each added six kills, with Deja Martin getting
five.
Sunday, FAMU (9-13, 7-0 in MEAC) won over Savannah State (4-22, 0-7), 25-13, 25-18 and 25-23 at Tiger Arena in Savannah, Georgia, led by Soriano, who had a match high 16 kills and five digs.
Fowler and Etheredge each added eight kills for FAMU. Joanie
Del Castillo had a team-high 14 digs, followed by Etheredge with 11. Valeria
Lopez dished out 36 assists Sunday.
Sunday’s win at Savannah State was the 36th straight regular season
conference match win for FAMU dating back to 2011, when the Lady Rattlers
dropped their conference opener to South Carolina State, 3-1, before reeling
off nine straight wins to end the season. FAMU went 10-0 during the regular season in both 2012 and 2013.
Its current 7-0 record has put it on track to possibly achieve another perfect
regular season in 2014.
