Junior point guard Khaderja Young led the Rattlers with 16
points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.
Freshman forward Olivia Antilla scored 13 on 6-of-15 shooting from the
field. Redshirt freshman center Brooksie
McGraw dominated on the inside both offensively and defensively, scoring 10
points to round out the trio of Lady Rattlers in double-figures.
Head Coach LeDawn Gibson was impressed with the Lady
Rattlers’ hustle on both ends of the floor.
“Today we played like a basketball team. Sometimes when you study recruits, you still don’t know how they translate into team players. We are very happy with the contributions our first-year players made today,” Gibson said.
McGraw, a transfer from the University of Alabama, was
visible both offensively and defensively.
She and Young, a junior college transfer, pulled down seven rebounds
each.
UNCG was led by Jade Scaife, who carded 15 points on 6-of-15
shooting. Bailey Williams (13), Shanese
Harris (12) and Lucy Mason (11) rounded out the quartet of Spartans in double
figures. Jarae Savage, led all players
with eight rebounds.
The Lady Rattlers shot 47.4-percent from the field and
40-percent from three-point range. They
held UNCG to 42.6-percent from the field and 33.3-percent from the three-point
arc.
The tough game saw 10 lead changes and four ties, with the
Lady Rattlers pulling away down the stretch.
FAMU held the scoring lead in the paint by a 40-30 margin. FAMU also collected 20 second chance points.
“We’ve got to tighten up some things to be ready for next
weekend’s series in Atlanta and Macon, and ultimately prepare for MEAC play to
resume on Jan.10,” Gibson said.
