Varnadore felt the evening was a perfect cap to his FAMU
career.
“It’s a great feeling and an honor. To be mentioned on anything that bears Jake Gaither’s name is an honor. This is one of many great memories I’ve had here at FAMU,” Varnadore said.
The guest speaker for the Tallahassee Quarterback Club’s
Annual Jamboree was NFL great Dan Reeves.
Reeves entered the NFL as a player, transitioned to player-coach and
retired after being head coach of three NFL teams. He spent his playing years with the Dallas
Cowboys under legendary Coach Tom Landry, where he entered the league at the
same time as FAMU great and NFL Hall of Famer Robert “Bob” Hayes. Reeves was a
member of two Super Bowl championship teams.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) was formed in 1949,
to promote the game of football in the Big Bend area. In 1952, just three years
into its existence, and ahead of the racial divide in the country, the TQC
board unanimously awarded Jake Gaither an honorary membership. In the 65 year
history of the TQC, it has promoted football in the North Florida area by
supporting high school and collegiate athletics.
