Mangum then offered the following welcome:
“Gov. Scott, God has called upon you to lead us and has
committed into your hands as governor of the State of Florida, the wellbeing of
all its citizens. We, here at FAMU, stand ready to assist you. You have been
chosen by the people of this great state. And I ask you to seek God’s wisdom
and to govern with strength, courage, and a tender heart.
In Matthew 12:50 it is written: ‘For whosoever shall do the
will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and my mother.’
I encourage you to receive the power and the grace to always be obedient to the will of God for your life and for the lives of the people you serve. I pray that you, too, let the will of God always prevail over every other will in your life. And if there be any weaknesses in those gathered here today, let them be converted to strength. By the grace of God, let the word of God always enlighten our understanding.
Gov. Scott, God bless you, your family, and your
administration.
In closing, I welcome you all to come to FAMU to gain more
first-hand information about the outstanding students, faculty, and staff as
well as the many opportunities for collaboration. You will always be welcomed
on this campus.
The campus is the #1 public historically black college or
university in these United States.
Once again, we’re glad you’re here this morning. Thank you
for coming and enjoy the rest of this morning’s program.”
FAMU’s Concert Choir performed later in the event.
The Inaugural Prayer Breakfast at FAMU has been a tradition in the
state for almost 30 years.
