Junior guard Khadejra Young, a 5-8 Fort Lauderdale, Florida
native who came to FAMU as a transfer from Hillsborough Community College in
Tampa, is presently ranked 20th in NCAA Division One in steals per game with
3.00 (72 in 24 games), as well as third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC).
She had a season-high eight (8) steals on Nov. 28 against SMU in the SMU Thanksgiving Tournament in Dallas, Texas.
Young joins a select group of FAMU guards who have made
their mark in the NCAA steals rankings dating back to the 1980s.
April Manning (1988) finished second in the nation in steals
(132) as a senior, showing the way for Shelly Boston (1989-91) and NCAA Career
Steals leader Natalie White (630 from 1992-95) to take the defensive high
ground.
Boston twice led the nation (1990, 1991), plucking 160 as a sophomore in 1990, while White led Division One three times (1992, 1994, 1995), pilfering 191 in her senior season.
Just last season, FAMU had another national leader to join
the club in Jasmine Grice, who finished the 2013-14 season with 119 steals in
31 games, finishing her career in the Top Five in FAMU history, boosted by
back-to-back 100 steal seasons in 2013 and 2014.
