The inspector general of the Florida Board of Governors (BOG) is asking FAMU for answers about the hiring process that led to the employment of Santoras “Dee” Gamble.

Back on August 25, WFSU reported that the FAMU Office of Communications had hired Gamble to a job that pays him $75,000 per year. According to WFSU, “Gamble was convicted of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, a felony.”

BOG Inspector General Joseph Maleszewski emailed FAMU Vice-President for Audit and Compliance Richard Givens on September 9 with questions about the whether the university followed all of its required rules before Gamble was offered a job.

Maleszewski wrote the following to Givens:
Hiring Practices/Policy (i.e. convicted felon) - News reports indicated that FAMU administration hired Santoras D. Gamble in FAMU’s office of Communications, who was convicted of a federal felony. According to news media, Gamble was convicted of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, a felony. Has there been any review of this matter to confirm that FAMU followed the background and hiring process in hiring Gamble? If so, what was the result?
An Oct. 21 story by WFSU reported that Brittanian Gamble, the wife of Dee Gamble, received a signing bonus $5,000 from the administration. FAMU.edu lists Brittanian Gamble as the director for academic excellence at the university.
