FAMU softball splits two games USF Under Armour Invitational

The Florida A&M softball team (9-18) split its first two games in the 2016 USF Under Armour Invitational on Friday, losing their first game, 1-0 to LIU Brooklyn, before bouncing back to best Hartford University, 7-4.

In the opener, LIU’s Araina Lopez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for the game’s only run.

FAMU had seven hits in the first game, led by senior Jessica Nathan with two hits, while junior pitcher Kenya Pereira (5-9) got the decision, allowing one run on five scattered hits in six innings, with three strikeouts.

In the second game FAMU beat out 10 hits, led by Nathan and Kieffi Myrick with two hits. The quintet of Tashayla Irvis, Toni Anderson, Tahlia Snider, Whitney Farris and Raven Moseley each drove in a run.

FAMU scored two runs in the top of the second for an early 2-0 lead, but Hartford tied the game in the bottom of the inning at 2-2.

The Rattlers scored single runs in the third and fifth innings for a 4-2 edge, before Hartford rallied in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score with a two-run surge.

FAMU clinched the game in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on two hits and two Harford errors for a 7-4 lead.

Snider (1-1) got her first collegiate career win in the pitching circle, allowing four runs on nine hits, with four strikeouts and no walks in seven complete innings.
