At an organizational session, U.S. Rep.-elect Alfred “Al” Lawson
joined 189 Democrats in voting for Nancy Pelosi (D-California) in the election
for speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. After Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin)
won the race with 239 votes, he administered the oath of office to Lawson and
the rest of the members of the chamber.
Lawson, joined by his wife Delores Brooks and three
grandchildren, also participated in a separate “mock swearing in” with Ryan.
