Overton added that: “We would like to thank Coach Byron
Samuels for his contributions to our men's basketball program and
student-athletes over the past three seasons. Assistant Coach Lamont Franklin
will lead our program as the interim head coach while a national search is
conducted for a replacement. Our focus continues to center around ‘Building
Champions in the classroom, on the field and in life - with academic honesty
and integrity.’”
Samuels headed the men’s basketball program for three years.
His FAMU teams had a 17-71 record.
