Florida A&M University ceased all but essential operations on its campus last week in response to Gov. Rick Scott’s directive that told public schools to close as the state prepares for Hurricane Irma. FAMU announced on Saturday that it will remain closed through Friday, September 15.

Leon County and Tallahassee officials announced a voluntary evacuation notice to local residents, yesterday. Mandatory evacuations are in place for parts of two neighboring counties: Lafayette and Wakulla.

FAMU opened the Foster-Tanner Rehearsal Hall on Saturday for off-campus students who need a storm shelter. According to the university, “Hot meals will continue to be served on the weekend schedule in the cafeteria/dining hall through Sunday, September 10, 2017. Contingent upon weather conditions, beginning Monday, September 11, 2017, Dining Services will be prepared to deliver boxed meals and water to student housing facilities.”
