Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, and City Council Member Keisha Lance Bottoms
On Wednesday, October 11, Florida A&M University alumna Keisha Lance Bottoms picked up a coveted endorsement for her campaign to become the next mayor of Atlanta, Ga.

Incumbent Mayor Kasim Reed announced his support for Bottoms while being interviewed by V-103, WVEE 103.3 FM.

“I want folks to know that I am going to do everything I can between now and Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 to see that Keisha Lance Bottoms becomes my successor, that a woman becomes the 60th mayor of Atlanta,” Reed said in a quote published online by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Bottoms is a Magma Cum Laude alumna of the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication. As a student, she became a member of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After graduating from FAMU, she earned a law degree from Georgia State University and opened a private law practice in Atlanta.

Her public service leadership includes serving as a judge (pro hoc) in the Fulton County State Court and executive director of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County Recreation Authority (AFCRA). Since January 2010, she has represented District 11 on the Atlanta City Commission.

She is married to Derek W. Bottoms. They have four children.

A poll by WSB-TV showed Bottoms within two percentage points of frontrunner Mary Norwood, another member of the Atlanta City Council. Norwood lost a mayoral race against Reed back in 2009.
