The Florida Blue Florida Classic Weekend kicked off in Orlando, Florida on Thursday night with a formal reception at the beautiful Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center. The reception marked the 38th year of the FAMU-Bethune Cookman football rivalry.

During the reception, FAMU trustees and Orlando community leaders Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. and businessman Harold Mills were among those honored with the 2017 Bob Billingslea Florida Classic Award. Directly after the reception, nationally-acclaimed comedian and actor Cedric the Entertainer took the stage, filling the room of hundreds of Rattlers and Wildcats with laugh-after-laugh. The comedy show also featured opening acts by J.J. Williamson and Malik S.

On Friday morning, Rattler leaders, alumni, recruiters and students headed to the Orlando Hilton for the University’s annual Education Fair. Entertainment for more than 1,500 Rattler hopefuls was provided by the renowned FAMU Connection performance group. Alumna, actress, and director T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh joined Interim President Larry Robinson, Vice President for Student Affairs William Hudson Jr., and representatives of the Royal Court, Presidential Ambassadors, and Student Government Association to showcase to high school students why they should choose the No.1 public HBCU, FAMU. Top local scholars were accepted on the spot.
