A total of 22 Florida A&M University student-athletes
crossed the stage during the Fall 2017 commencement ceremonies. 17 earned
bachelor’s degrees and the remaining five earned master’s degrees.
FAMU Interim Director of Athletics John Eason was pleased
with the number of student-athletes attaining their degrees.
“Graduation is when real victories occur,” Eason said. “When
we commit to these FAMU students and their families, we convince them that this
university is the best place to get a great education.”
Leading the group of graduates are two members of the 2017 Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s tennis champion Rattlers. Walner Espinoza and
Karlyn Small both participated in commencement ceremonies this weekend.
Espinoza attained his B.S. in information technology, while Small earned his
B.S. in business administration.
Highly decorated track and field athlete Andrea Aaron was
awarded her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Aaron earned
several MEAC honors en route to helping the Lady Rattler track team to two MEAC
Outdoor Track and Field championships. She also earned several top honors in
indoor track and field.
“As an educator first, it is always refreshing to see a
student-athlete perform well on the field and in the classroom,” Moore said. “She
was a quiet leader on the field, but she was efficient in handling her academic
and athletic responsibilities with excellence.”
Also earning degrees this weekend were student-athletes who
had attained accolades from the MEAC. All-MEAC tennis player Dominique Henry
was awarded her B.S. in business economics. Former All-MEAC volleyball players
Pamela Soriano and Dei’Ja Martin were included in the number of hundreds of
graduates who crossed the stage. Soriano earned a B.S. in public relations,
while Martin graduated with a B.S. in journalism.
