student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one
year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
FAMU’s 18 MEAC All-Academic student-athletes are: Osman Aguilera,
Tarique Akbar, Yahia Aly, Bishop Bonnett, Elijah Casey, Marquan Cromartie, Joshua
Engram, Doyle Grimes, Vincent Jeffries, Terry Jefferson, Dock Luckie III, Atreus
Martin, De'Montre Moore, Kevin Newman, Obina Nwankwo, Shamari Pittman, Myles
Rouse, and Hans Supre.
FAMU Interim Head Coach Edwin Pata said that the honor represents progress in the department's academic focus.
"It says a lot about the seriousnes of our guys and the
balance attributed to their academics.
Football is strenuous as you have to balance workouts, practice, study
and maintain some sort of social life.
This type of honor underscores that our priorities are aligned. Education is number one. We come to FAMU first and foremost get an
education. We are seeing that in the
kids we bring in. No matter what our
rate of success is on the field, we can always look forward to having success
on the academic side," Pata said.
“I felicitate our football student-athletes for maintaining
a 3.0 or better grade point average,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E.
Thomas. “I would also like to recognize the academic support staff, faculty,
parents and coaches who have contributed to the academic and athletic success
of these student-athletes.”
