Before bringing the impeachment resolution to the floor,
Green sent a letter to his House colleagues that explained why he thought the
action was necessary. He said that “we now have a bigot in the White House who
incites hated and hostility.”
“The question isn’t whether we have a bigot as President,
the question is: What are we going to do about it?” Green said in the December
5 letter. “The answer is: Impeachment for his high misdemeanors, which need not
be a crime.”
Green continued: “Impeachment is a political remedy, not a judicial remedy, thus it may be a high misdemeanor, which may or may not be a crime. The precedent of impeachment for a high misdemeanor as a non-criminal remedy is exemplified in the articles of impeachment against President Andrew Johnson…”
The first paragraph of the impeachment resolution by Green
states that Trump “is unfit to be President.”
According to the Washington Post: “House Majority Leader
Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) offered a motion to table the resolution, which was
adopted on a 364 to 58 vote. Every lawmaker who opposed the motion was a
Democrat, as were four others who voted present.”
Green attended Florida A&M University from 1966 to 1971.
